Medication FAQ

Common questions about medication, transfer of care to your GP, after-diagnosis support, and where and how we deliver appointments.

Yes — this is called Shared Care. After 3 months, if your child is on a stable and effective dose, we can ask the GP to take over prescribing under Shared Care. The GP can then provide NHS prescriptions, and Dr Cassie would be responsible for monitoring via 6-monthly reviews.

Please note that the GP is not obliged to agree to Shared Care. We also encourage parents to ask the GP to refer to the CAMHS Treatment Pathway, which over time can give the option of both prescriptions and medication monitoring being taken over by the NHS service.

A diagnosis is the start of a journey, not the end. We offer a range of post-diagnosis support including follow-up appointments, medication management, our "Supporting Your Child" 90-minute parents-only session, ongoing therapy (OT, SaLT, physiotherapy, counselling), school liaison, SEN consultancy, and signposting to trusted external resources.

Our goal is to make sure you never feel abandoned after diagnosis. Whatever stage you're at, there is usually something helpful we can offer or recommend.

We support children, young people, and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, DCD, and sensory processing differences. Our children's clinic sees patients from early childhood through adolescence, while our adult clinic supports individuals from age 18 and above.

We're based at The Stables, Howbery Park, near Wallingford, Oxfordshire (OX10 8BA). The site has ample free parking and is easily accessible from the A4130. See our Getting Here page for full directions.

Yes — we offer both in-clinic and online appointments to suit your availability and accessibility needs. Some assessments (like autism assessments) need to happen face-to-face for accuracy, but many follow-ups, medication reviews, and some OT and SEN services can be delivered via telehealth.

During the first 3 months (the titration period), you pay for the medication at your pharmacy. Costs vary between pharmacies so it's worth shopping around, but generally these controlled drugs cost between £30 and £50 for one month's supply. We can also request prescriptions via the online pharmacy CloudRx, which has its own costs.

After 3 months, if your GP agrees to Shared Care, you can get NHS prescriptions at the standard prescription charge (or free if you're exempt).

During the first 3 months you'll need a follow-up at 4-6 weeks and again at 3 months. After that, we recommend a medication review every 6 months in line with NICE guidelines and the Shared Care agreement. We also ask for email feedback 7-10 days from commencing medication.

Use our online repeat prescription form. Helen Latch, our Nurse Prescriber, processes requests on Mondays and Fridays, so please allow at least 7 days' notice.
